Help for games authors

The growing number of game releases on the PowerMac is set to increase with the debut of Apple software to help professional game developers. Using Apple's free Game Sprockets, developers can bring 3D graphics, Internet link-ups, speech recognition and other attractive features into their games without having to write programming code for these areas from scratch. There's also now a standard way of setting up joysticks, which was previously problematic.

QuickDraw 3D RAVE (Rendering Acceleration Virtual Engine) gives games the ability to produce fast-moving 3D graphics and receive an automatic boost if you get a 3D acceleration card.

Already available in test form, the six Game Sprockets will be complete this summer and will be free for developers to use from the World Wide Web. You can find more information about the sprockets at the Web address http://www.dev.info.apple.com/
